Default InDesign 2.02, WIN 2000, how-to import WORD doc into new Book file

I am new at this and have trouble figuring-out import (copy or drag) of MS WORD doc containing an article I wrote into a new InDesign book or tabloid file for pre-print formating. I tried to import a pdf version of the article into InDesign but also can't seem to find the likely answer why it dosen't work: Is it that InDesign simply dosen't do WORD or PDF doc imports/copy/paste? Don't copy/paste. Instead, choose File > Place. Select the Word file.

Steve, thank you. I tried it and it partly works. The File/Place command and select WORD in a Tabloid format InDesign new page only placed 3 WORD pages into the first tabloid page and ignored the remainder pgs. 4 to 19 in the WORD document article. I created a second Tabloid page but I am stuck on how to get the entire 19 page WORD document into a tabloid format InDesign page in one easy step - if indeed possible. Any further assist would be kindly appreciated. Bob

You need to hold down shift when you place a long file to get ID to autoflow the pages.

Read about threaded text frames in the Help system.

    Robert,

It sounds like you need to either spend some time reading the Help files (or the printed manual). Or pick up a third party book on InDesign. You're expecting that it's going to work like a word processing application, which it's not. Page layout applications work in many way different than Microsoft Word.
