InDesign 2 lost icon
Hi folks
I came up with the following problem. I had InDesign 2 installed and I installed InDesign CS (Upgrade version). After Installation, both programs coexisted on my PC but my InDesign files were given he CS Icon. Then I uninstalled ID CS for a given reason but then the InDesign files did not get back the InDesign 2 blue icon. When I list their folder they appear with the "unknown program" type of icon, although InDesign 2 starts when I double click on the files. Does someone know how to restore the InDesign 2 icon to the files ?
Many thanks in advance.
Serge

Re: InDesign 2 lost icon
Hi Serge
Probably a Windows thing rather than ID. First try checking your file associations. If you're in Windows XP, open 'My Computer' then from the menu bar choose 'Tools', and pick 'Folder Options'.
Click on the tab for 'File Types'. Wait for it to read all your file types and associations. Scroll down the list to INDD etc and then click the 'Change' button and re-select ID2 as the program to open the files. If icon still doesn't work, try the same thing but use the 'Advanced' button then the 'Change icon' option. The process is similar but different for earlier Win versions.
If that doesn't do it, try a free Microsoft add-on called 'Tweak-UI' which you can download from the Powertoys page for your Windows version (XP version of Powertoys is at <http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp> ) - otherwise use the search on www.microsoft.com to find Win98 or earlier versions.
Once installed, the TweakUI powertoy has a tool called 'Repair' (bottom of the list) which will rebuild icons (as well as repairing font folders and some other stuff). It usually works for me, but sometimes only after a reboot.
By the way TweakUI has lots of other tools, a few of them quite practical and a few more that are just good for control freaks! Recommended.
Cheers
