InDesign and Postcript printing
We are using a Trial Version of InDesign CS on a Windows 2000 platform in a Pentium IV 768 MB RAM and are having the same problems that we had with version II. When we send the work to our Eagle Founder RIP, Postcript 3 which is connected to a Linotronic 300 it says that the printer selected is Postcript 1 and cannot be used. We can print from Illustrator 10 and Page Maker 7, and all of the other softwares we have including CorelDraw, Canvas, Xara, etc. The only way we can print is printing the document to file and then opening it in the RIP, but this is not the way we are used to do the things.
We would really like to Upgrade to InDesign CS, but we would first need to solve this problem and the people at Adobe says they do not give technical support to Trial Version.

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
InDesign CS is probably reading the PostScript Level 1 information from the PPD file you're using. There were some PostScript Level 2 PPDs for the Lino 300, but you'll have to look around to find one. InDesign does not work with PostScript Level 1 RIPs. (The Lino 300 is now pretty old--circa 1987 as I recall.)

The first non-Postscript version appeared circa 1984. PS versions first came out circa 1985.

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
I was working for them (Linotype) at that time, so I have to remember it. It was THE machine that start things rolling - when an imagesetter was simply a Linotronic (300).
Best regards

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
Hello
I have just recently installed Indesign CS and had done a design of my letterhead to be printed 2 up on Tabloid paper on my RISO 3750 with computer interface SC5500.
I click print and the job starts blinking on the interface and then stops after about 15 seconds. My RISO dealer said that the interface can only print PS Level 2 and that he thinks Indesign can only print PS Level 3. I don't believe this to be true.
Can anyone help?
Sami

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
All the problem is with In Design. I can Print from any other software and select the Postcript Level Language I wish, I, II or III, but this blessed programs says that the printer is Postcript I. Isn't it funny that the other programs from Adobe let me select the Postcript Level Language using the same equipment and InDesign doesnt', and the people at Adobe says that it is the equipment.

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
ID2.x and ID CS are specified for Postscript Level 2 or 3, they were never for level 1

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
I know this. The problem is that the RIP is Postcript Level III and Indesign sees it as Level I
Thanks

Re: InDesign and Postcript printing
ID has to use any Postscript printer installed by the OS by what its PPD means to the Postscript installer driver, no matter what the RIP is.
