Re: InDesign bad Document
I can't find "edit object" anywhere. I hate to be such a dummy, but please help. I did find the touch up object and it is selected but then what?
Also do you know why my page number don't print? They were printing just fine. Now I have reinstalled InDesign and no numbers.
Thanks.

Re: InDesign bad Document
I all of a sudden have a problem printing automatic page numbers in InDesign. I put them on my master pages. I have printed them before but now they don't print. I have tried changing type faces and they still don't print.
Help please!

Re: InDesign bad Document

Re: InDesign bad Document
Have I made them non-printing. Not that I know of. How would I have done that and how can I correct it?
I don't believe they are outside the printing area as they have printed before.
Thank you so much.

Re: InDesign bad Document
I can't find "edit object" anywhere.
Are you doing the following:
In Acrobat, select an object with the 'touch up object' tool, control-click
on it and select 'edit object'.
It's a fairly simple operation, more difficult to explain than to do. Look also in Acrobat help which may have a more graphic decription.
As for your page numbers, in ID, go to your master pages, make a new layer (it should be at the top of your layers list) and put your page number frames on that layer.
It would well be that your page numbers are being hidden by other stuff. Putting them on the top-most layer (but nothing else with them on that layer) will mean they're always visible.

Re: InDesign bad Document
I am able to do the control-click part alright. Then I can't find "edit object" anywhere nor does a new pdf document open up. Are you doing this on a Mac? I am getting ready to do a lot of this and I would love to learn how to avoid the clip board as some of the logos come out really blurry.
I was able to get the page numbers to print finally. Somehow in the preferences, the number selection was changed back to "Section Numbering" or some such.
Thank you for your help.

Re: InDesign bad Document
It can be tricky alright in Acrobat to select one particular editable object and control-click on it.
If, when you control-click and hold on an object, the Acrobat's frame which it puts round the object is still visible, the menu thus displayed should include an edit option.
Maybe something's set up differently in my Acrobat to yours (yes, it's a Mac) but I've no idea what it could be. I have never had a problem executing this function (taking in pdfs from many different sources means I find I have to 'fix' them every day) and so am at a loss as to what your problem might be.
Maybe someone else out there can contribute.

Re: InDesign bad Document
I am making progress. If I control click on a logo which I want to copy into another document, I get only 1 letter of the logo which opens up in Illustrator wehn I select edit object. The secret to finding that was in right clicking.
If I try to select the whole thing, I get the blue lines around all the parts of the logo (7 or 8). These go away when I try to hold down the mouse or right click.
Thanks for your patience.

Re: InDesign bad Document
Sorry about that - I'm entrenched in 'traditional' one-button mouse shortcuts.
Anyway, I just opened a pdf and shift-clicked several disparate elements. All then had a line around them. I held down the control key and clicked the mouse and the menu said 'edit objects' (note plural).
Keep going.

Re: InDesign bad Document
I just made more progress. I got option-click to copy the whole page with the logo on it to a new preview document. I think I am almost there if not there.
I was able to delete the objects I didn't want from the page, save it as a tif and import it into my document where I reduced the size and it printed beautifully. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love it.
The only problem now is that I am not sure how I got the new document to open. It surprised me when it came up.
I too am hung up on the one button mouse but have a mouseball and it comes with 4 buttons and I decided to try them all and one worked the lower right one. I hope I can do it again.
