InDesign CD crashes constantly since 3.01 update installed

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help with my problem.

I'm using InDesign 3.01. I updated from V 3.00 today, but ever since I have applied the update to 3.01, the program crashes constantly, usually after no more than 2 minutes after loading. I can be doing anything when it happens, from clicking on a text frame to accessing a menu.

If I uninstall the program completely and install the standard 3.00, it's all fine again. I need to update so I have full compatibility with the Mac's I work with at University (I can't interchange properly without the update - I get error messages).

I am not using any any 3rd party plug-ins, and have tried the obvious things: replacing preferences file etc.

Any advice, or am I stuck with an older version?

Is your version of InDesign the beta version?

No, it's the full version.
Wouldn't the ipdate fail if someone with the beta tried to use it?

Probably your InDesign CS (before update) was beta version. You can see in Help > Cntr + About InDesign in no-updated program. If InDesign.exe version is 404, it's beta.

Update seems to run successfully, splash screen says 3.0.1, but in the end all you get is invalid program.

Another symptom appears when you open old documents, created with your IDCS 3. If your IDCS 3.0.1 converts them, it was beta before update.

Sorry about that, I was going to tell you to check but I thought it wasn't beta because you told me it wasn't. You seemed sure that you had the final version so I ruled that out.

Yes, it seemed I've been duped by the man who sold it to me. I thought it was too cheap to be true.
I didn't know how to check the version number before, or that "404" meant Beta version.
I'm going to buy it direct from Adobe later in the week and uninstall my current version.
