Default InDesign CS 3.0.1 - Linking text

I tried searching to see if this topic was already out there, but didn't see anything. I'm trying to figure out if there's a wake to link text boxes or some way that if I edit text in one spot, it also changes it in another. For instance, I'm making name cards. They're horizontally placed on a sheet of paper, to tags per page, but the same name. One is rotated so that it can be folded in half and read upright from both sides. Is there something I can do so that when I change "John Smith" in the bottom text box it also changes at the top?

Ah, linked text, one of my favorite features of Microsoft office. I don't think ID has the ability to do that.

If they are all marked with a unique charcter style you could do a find/change. If there isn't any similar text you could do a find/change even without a character style.

or you could do at as a data merge and change the data document and remerge, but that's also a lot of work.

There's also scripted-based updates. There's a plug-in by Rogue Sheep called InEvent Script that can be triggered to run scripts on certain events (like document Save). So if you had a bunch of text boxes with a script label on them, you could automatically update the contents of those boxes at Save to match a master box on your pasteboard.

Well, that's what I've heard at least--haven't actually tried it though...
