Default InDesign CS Printing Fails With RAMPAGE Rip v8.3

We are running Adobe InDesign CS on Windows XP workstations and are having trouble with a number of files that will not RIP to our RAMPAGE Rip v8.3 attached to a SCREEN FT-R3050 film unit. We have tried exporting to an EPS as normal as well as to a PDF and neither file has worked. We receive an error while the file is being ripped with 2 offending commands:
    "xxx xxx xxx xxx li"
    "xxx xxx xxx xxx mo"

With the xxx being various numbers.

We have tried specific pages and removing all open type fonts and changing the PDF export to a very vanilla layout and nothing seems to solve the problem. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tried Distilling the PDF instead of Exporting?

Yes. We have even tried opening the PDF in ACrobat and then printing it to a new PDF from there and the same result.

Hmmm. I start to suspect one of those unfortunate cases where a PostScript "compatible" RIP isn't as compatible as it should be, but there isn't quite enough evidence yet.

Do you have any other PostScript devices to try the PDF on? Even just a laser printer. If it prints there, you've got enough info to go to Fuji and try to get their help.

Yes, the file will print to our HP 4000N laser printer and it will also RIP to our Fiery XJ attached to an Epson 5000 color printer. We have also been unable to export to an EPS as well. When we use an EPS, we get the error I mentioned. When we use a pdf we get errors on the following lines:
    "1 w"
    "true setSA"

And then flushing rest of job, "RIP failed. Postscript language error."

So, you have a file that prints fine to an Adobe PostScript RIP, and to HP's clone, but not to somebody else's clone. I do suggest bugging that vendor for assistance.

Although if anybody else has any bright ideas, I'm sure they're worth trying....

We ended up splitting and splitting and removing and removing and found that these few items were the issues:
    1) A gradient on top of a gradient in one document.
    2) A star drawn in Indesign rotated and scaled in InDesign.

These were the hardest to find but after removing them we were able to get succesful rip. - wpr
