Default InDesign CS spell checker not working

I have a 44 page document I need to send to the printers but the spell checker is not working. It jumps to a table half way in the book and spell checks everything after that but even if I type garbage in the page before the table it will not report any spelling mistakes. I tried deleting the table temporarily but the spell checker still reports no errors when I know for sure there are errors there.

My system is WinXP fully updated with 1.5gig ram.

    Any sugestions?

Does the text in question have a language assigned to it? Highlight it
    and check the character palette.

OK thanks for the tip. Proximity dictionarys are new to me. The bulk of the document has Australian Dictionary which is what I want but the table is set to USA Dictionary. It doesn't look like the table's language setting can be easily changed without individually selecting each cell (major pain). Edit (found how to change the whole table)

So, are you saying I can't have multiple dictionarys or my Australian Dictionary is broken?

OK, busy solving my own problem now that you have put my on the right track. I don't think there is an Australian Dictionary in InDesign CS it has just imported the option from the original Word document. I will have to change the Dictionary to UK as it's closer than the US dictionary.

Is there an option to install an Australian dictionary or a download?

All I ever use is USA English. I don't know if there's an Australian
    English dictionary available.
