Indesign CS3.0 will NOT save - Help!!
Up to now saving took 1 hour. Now the file will not save. Will not Save As (as well). File is 100+ pg Catalog with a million jpgs. File size is 260mb. Temp file is 160mb (Did alot of work yesterday). Have forced Quit 3 times and so far upon reboot the file restores fine. Can work and make more changes, but can not save.
Working on Mac G5 1.6 with only 1.5gb ram. System Monitor shows 700mb Real Mem and 1gb virtual mem used. And recent hangs of 1. God knows what this means, but can someone help? Hope it is simply a problem a Ram purchase will resolve.

What exactly happens when you try? Are you saving locally or to a network?
That would be 10,000 images per page.> File is 100+ pg Catalog with a million jpgs.

InDesign 3 or InDesign CS or CS2? As far as I know ID CS3 has not been released yet.
Are you by chance trying to save to a read only disk? Do you get any error messages? Or are the options grayed out. Please give us more info specifically problem related. Can you save other files?

First, thanks for helping.
No - not placing via camera.
All files are either jpg or eps at 300 dpi
All photos are on network G5 Mac as well.
Indesign app and Master file .indd file on Local Hard Disk.

Dale: bring the photos onto your local drive. That will help.
Have you a lot of fonts active? If so, try deactivating as many as possible.
Try opening the file in a new user account and see if that helps.
Export as .inx and then open that and see if that makes a difference.
My first suggestion is the most crucial, I think.

Re: Indesign CS3.0 will NOT save - Help!!
Opps I should read before I write.
Have been working in same set up for a month since I started the project
So no the Networked computer is not a read only disk.
No Error message. Just the swirling beach ball. All other apps work. No freezing, bombing or irregularities on this computer for 3+ months.
Last week did fixed permissions and verified all disks (Mine and the Networked Mac) no problems as well.
When I save all seems normal.
Save simply starts the save, then in a few min. The beach ball.
Save As, lets me rename the file and then the same... Beach Ball.
When I go the the disk / folder I am saving to (I have tried saving on two diff local ones), there is no update seen. Like a temp file being created, or a new file (the re-named .indd) name created.

If I bring the files (Photos) locally and relaunch
1. How does ID know not to go to the network to get them? Instead of the local ones.
2. If I disconnect from the network, will ID ask where they are?
3. Will this complicate the recovery process for a future relaunch?
On the fonts. Only 2 are being used.
What is the .inx File? Can I save back from .inx to .indd?

Will trashing prefs complicate a future recovery?
Is .inx the same as interchange?

Re: Indesign CS3.0 will NOT save - Help!!
Is .inx the same as interchange?
Yes.
If I disconnect from the network, will ID ask where they are?
Yes. And you can point it to the new location and it will update itself. I like all images connected with a file to be in the same folder as the document, sometimes in a sub-folder if there are, as in your case, a lot of images.
Will this complicate the recovery process for a future relaunch?
I can't think why it would.
