InDesign Interchange format
Greetings.
Is there any documentation available on the InDesign Interchange format? Is there anything that is stored in InDesign Document files that is not stored in InDesign Interchange filse? Or can I safely use InDesign Interchange files instead of InDesign Document files? Does anyone know what the pros and cons are of doing so?
Thanks.

Image previews, which is the reason why interchange files can be so much
smaller.

Re: InDesign Interchange format
Is there any way to disable InDesign CS loading the image previews when it opens an InDesign Interchange file? I tried setting the image display to "Optimized," but that doesn't appear to have worked.
Thanks.

Re: InDesign Interchange format
Jared,
The interchange format is currently not publicly documented.

Phil --
I'm not interested in the internals of the format, just using it to store documents from InDesign on the hard disk (for some reason saving documents as regular InDesign documents takes an unacceptably long time for me). Is even that level of documentation unavailable?
Thanks.

Re: InDesign Interchange format
Jared,
The Help files only suggest that .inx files be used for backward compatibility to 2.0, which doesn't work by the the way. My feeling is that the .inx format is unproven and I wouldn't trust it as a primary storage format for my documents (yet). I know of no other documentation than the Help files for this.
