InDEsign Newbie - Consecutive numbering of figures in a document. How?
I've placed text and graphics from a MS Word version of a User Manual that includes consecutively numbered figures for the graphics (eg: Figure 1, Figure 2...)
In InDesign, the figure numbers came in correctly, but they're just plane text with a paragraph style applied. How can I apply figure numbering to this text, so that adding or removing graphicss from the manual will keep eveything numbered correctly?
ASAP Please! We need to get this printed soon!
Thanks. :)

You will do it manually. There is no automatic numbering feature in InDesign.

Re: InDEsign Newbie - Consecutive numbering of figures in a document. How?
Here's a quick and dirty way I just thought of that may or may not work for your situation.
Make a text file:
Figure 1
Figure 2 ...
Figure X
In InDesign, set up a text box for each figure. Use a paragraph style with Keep Options that force the text into the next frame. Import the text into the box for the first illustration, then link the text boxes. If you delete a figure and its text box, subsequent figures will be renumbered. If you add a new figure, just link it to the text thread.
If you need an additional caption, it would need to be in a separate text box.
