I have read many appends and still am not sure I have the right
answer. I
want to self-print and hand bind as a hobby perhaps 10-20 or so copies
of a small 80 - 100 page chapter book (maybe 6 x 8)on really nice
elegant paper. I do not necessarily need all the layout capability of
Pagemaker or In Design, etc. (unless it will also do what I want) as
this is straight text only. I need
software which will do the following:

* print 4 pages per sheet (e.g. both sides, properly spaced,
so I can make up signatures) and keep track of which page goes where
to make up the signatures

* a really nice, elegant font

* import the text from Word (or a native wordprocessor input
is
okay too)

* properly right and left justify with correct kerning

* print preferably on an upscale laser home printer (PS ?)
that accepts larger paper.

Has anyone got a suggestion on whether InDesign is the best
software which will do this and if not what is ? The reason In Design
doen't appear to be suitable is I am NOT laying out pages with bunches
of graphics, changing fonts, etc. I am simply printing a little book.
But I want to be able to print it at home with the highest of quality
and proper signature layout so I can then
hand bind it. I will have a series of these small books and enjoy
doing it as a hobby at home with meticulous detail on the binding, so
it is NOT an option to send out files to a small production run print
house. I want the control of being able to do another batch of 5 or
whatever at my leisure. I just need a way to improve the at-home
printing and layout of the 4 page sheets suitable for signatures.
I would be most grateful for your thoughts and suggestions (also on
a high quality printer which would accept paper stock suitable for 4
pages per sheet).
