Index generated in acrobat 6.0 is not compatible with earlier version of acrobat
Hello all.
I have a problem with using the catalog feature in 6.0. When I try to update an index that was created using 5.0, I get a warning saying that this index cannot be used with previous releases of acrobat. If you create an index using 6.0 then it is not backward compatible. The help in 6.0 suggests that I keep a copy or overwrite the old index. At this time this is not a viable solution to me.
For now I am going to have to keep generating my index using 5.0 catalog so that I can support some of my customers who are still using acrobat 5.0. Unless ofcourse there is a work around to this issue.
Looking forward to your inputs.
Jeevan.

Yes, I recommend keeping an old version of Acrobat for this purpose.

Re: Index generated in acrobat 6.0 is not compatible with earlier version of acrobat
I created the catalog in Acrobat 5, but happened to have Reader 6.0 installed. When people are running it they are getting errors if they have Reader 5.0 installed. Also, when some of the writers are launching the search, it is launching the index definition instead of the search I created. Any ideas.

Re: Index generated in acrobat 6.0 is not compatible with earlier version of acrobat
Yes, this is a very large pain. I also have users with Reader 5 while I have switched to Acrobat 6 and I can no longer maintain and update my indexes (created under Acrobat 5). I was told not to try to run both Acrobat 5 and 6 on the same machine so have taken to using a copy of Acrobat 5 on another machine to update my indexes (Is this stupid or what?). I am also having difficulties with some of my new documents created with Acrobat 6 when my clients attempt to read them with Reader 5 and find their Reader crashing - not all pdfs just some - and I can not determine what is causing the failures! Plus it is hard as hell to find any relevant information.
