Default Info on Dlink usb wireless device and Linksys

I wanted to hook up a G3 with a wireless connection. I chose a linksys
..11b router with a dlink wireless usb. I spent a lot of time on the
phone with Linksys and Dlink support so let me share what I've
    learned...

I went to Bestbuy and the idiot said Linksys, in combo with the dlink,
is the preferred choice for mac users. When nothing worked I called
linksys support and they said they do not supply drivers for macs, so
in my book, they are not the preferred choice. I think if you are
looking for the least headache, go with airport solutions.

If you do choose the linksys dlink combo, you will need to finagle.
One interesting thing I discovered is that the dlink wireless usb
device cannot be plugged into a usb keyboard if your using one). The
usb keyboard doesn't supply enough juice to power the dlink device,
    you must plug into cpu.

Although there are no drivers linksys supplies for macs, it does work
with the dlink. I have to unplug the linksys everytime i am done using
the cpu. Otherwise, the connection doesn't work. This is a bit
annoying but after 2 months, i have gotten use to it and i am just
    happy i can connect wirelessly.

You *really* don't need a driver for a router. I doubt they provide
    drivers for PCs, either.

    USB Speeds:

    Low: 1.5 Mb/S.
    Full: 12 Mb/S
    High: 480 Mb/S

I think the Apple keyboard is a low speed device, but it's been a while
since I used one. If that's right, you can only really plug other low
devices in: a mouse, really. I've plugged PDAs into it in the past and
had them fail. The DLink wireless module is almost certainly a Full
    speed device.

That does sound annoying. No such problems here with a DLink router and
    am Airport card.

You can probably pick up a DLink-branded replacement for your Linksys
relatively cheaply. They really aren't that expensive anymore -- a local
store had the 802.11b DLink for $70 CDN for a while.
