Default Infrequent crashes in CS with large file

    Panther3.3 CS, dual 800 G4 1.5 G dual monitors (cinema, lacie)

I've recently reinstalled Panther and Illustrator (and everything else) to a zeroed out disk and now after about 2 weeks start to get occaisional crashes, about twice a day.

It may have taken this long to corrupt something or it may be the complexity of the illustraton I am now working on. I've been reinstalling a few system add ons in this time, notably: Font Agent Pro and Virex. No, I do not run Norton or Spell catcher, thank you.

As for plugins: I've got only a few at the moment, just 3 or 4 Rick Johnson ones

The crashes occur in no yet determined pattern except that there is some screen drawing involved on a complex illustration. The latest when I was merely moving a pallette across it.

I know this subject has been beaten, but not yet to death. Unfortunately its still alive.

I think I do agree with you that it is either an system thing conflict or it just might be an issue switching windows and the like on large complex files especially if an operation is taking place and you try to switch a window or view and in this case move a palette.

I don't know if they are still looking into it but you might simply want to work a touch
more conservatively when you have a large file opened. It's just an observation and suggestion.

You don't have to heed it.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Oddly though it only so far seems to crash when I am doing something in the Illustrator window . I can open other software, download, email and so far it won't crash Illustrator.

    Wade:

I've had this problem with version 10 before for quite some time but I don't think that i've always had it. It didn't come back for about 2 weeks when I reinstalled everything. This suggests to me that there is a conflict somewhere or that something has been corrupted. Either way, if is gets created (is not there to begin with), it can be fixed . Whether it is as simple as trashing prefs, time zones I don't know.

it seems like a bug, but is it an Adobe bug?

I notice on a crash report or two including one of my own that there is thing called a toolbox that is part of the Apple PDF and has something to do with drawing objects and perhaps some other application when opened along with AI CS has a similar code
to AI CS and when changing a view or dragging a palette it confuses the system as to thinking …hey your in the wrong program you shouldn't be in AI CS but in this other program and so it ties to do what it can't do and crashes.

That is my theory at least! I am sure I have missed the mark but it is probably something of that type of conflict.

Of course they will probably find out that something was designated blue when it should have been red.
