insert bullet character - Adobe Indesign Windows

If I want to insert a dingbat in text, I've been making a bullet, setting that ding font then converting the bullet text to normal text, C&Ping that character and then placing it where I need it. Another way I've found is to use Windows Character Map to insert the character. It would be so nice if the "insert bullet character" would let me do this by giving an alternative to the plain round bullet character. Or is it possible?...

Check out the Bullets and Numbering panel of the Paragraph Style Options.

I'm wanting to use a special character between words within a paragraph.
Paragraph Style Options only seems to offer a choice for bullets at the
    front of paras.

You can define own sets of glyphs, this should be the function you need.

Go to Type > Glyphs. Click the arrow in the Glyphs window, and select
"New Glyphs Set..." Enter a name for your set. Back to the Glyphs
window, choose "Entire font" next to "Show:". Right-click your special
character(s) and select "Add to Glyph > [Glyph Set]". Next time you
want to insert these special character(s), use your own Glyph set in
    the Glyphs window.

To be more specific, see the flyout menu of the glyph palette, very
handy function, so your favorite glyph is only a doubleclick away from
    being inserted into your text.

    MsCynic,

Would you please turn off the autoquote in your newsreader. Feel free to
quote relevent parts of posts but most users access these forums through
the web and autoquotes just jam things up.

    Thanks,

    Bob
