Inserting files for download in a publisher webpage (pub 2000)

I would like to insert a powerpoint file on my web page
that visitors can download to their computer.
Is this possible and if so how can I do this?

just been looking at David's site but can't find an
answer to this question.
I don't want to link to a powerpoint web page but enable
visitors to download a Powerpoint viewer file to their pc.

Ken,

I think you are saying you have a web site, on the site you want a file (PP
viewer) you want to make available to download.

Before going on, let me advise this may not be the most desirable goal.
Folks may not want to download a program from sites that don't carry a well
known established name. Virus fear.

That being said, here's how I've provided files on my site. (Don't anymore
for the reason above - I provide the site address where the file/program can
be found and therefore the most current version will be found).

Step one: Don't offer the file with an exe file extension. It may run when
attempting to download. ZIP it then have it on your site.

I use Publisher 2000 and this is the way I do it.

When you build your site with Publisher you will end up with one or more
html page files, gif files etc.
Add a folder, I call mine downloads
Put the PP file and other downloads if you have them in this folder.

I'll use my site information (you are welcome to visit)
This is my site address:

(the extra data, osia_vancouver_usa is used because my daughter also has a
site and her files are in another folder)

I offer files on a page titled "Odds, Ends & Funny Things"

Note the file "Arabic to Roman Numerals" - You would use PP Viewer (whatever
the file name you want)
After listing it on the page, highlight the file title or use an icon -
whatever you like, Right click, Hyperlink and in my case it comes up with;

Numerals.pdf

Type in the path to your download folder, do a OK, the save the site with
File, Save as a web page, upload to your I.P. and don't forget to create a
download folder at the I.P. and upload the PP Viewer file into it.

All you do is upload the file and then link to it. If it is a exe or zip
file they will be prompted to download it. I do this for my tutorials at
[url]http://www.davidbartosik.com/ppt.htm[/url]
they are PowerPoint presentations, I also have a link to the PP Viewer since
not everyone has PP.
If you link to Office files such as doc, xls, pps, etc. , and the user has
IE and has the Office programs then the browser will likely load the file in
the browser using the Office controls. Hence zipping it is best.
I myself on the tutorials page use what is known as self extracting zips,
since not everyone knows what zip is or may not have a zip program the unzip
is built into the exe along with my file.
