Inserting jpg files
I have an ongoing "problem" with inserting photos images into WP 9 (ver 883)
docs.
Most of the time, the images are jpg screen captures of less than about 100
KB (with an opened file size of 1 MB or so when opened in Photoshop), and
they insert fine.
But, when I take a larger file size image that was scanned into Photoshop 7,
and saved as a jpg, it generally shows up as an empty figure box. Sometimes,
opening the image in PS 7, and then copying it to the clipboard allows me to
then paste it into WP 9.
Just now, I tried inserting a photo image into WP, and again got a blank
box. So, I tried the copying and pasting from Photoshop. That gave me an
error image box that said the file was too large. The file size is about
400K, and is it a low level jpg file. When Photoshop opens it up, it notes
that it's 13 MB.
I tried the same INSERT>FILE in MS WORD 2002, and that went in just fine.
The only reason I have WORD 2002 is that it came on my machine - I never use
it.
Any words of wisdom on this situation???

Re: Inserting jpg files
We still might be able to help, since the images were created/scanned with PS.
I wonder if you are using save as to create the jpgs. If so, try using Save for Web, which makes a tighter version of jpg that should work.

Re: Inserting jpg files
From my experience, it's best to save an image at a resolution of 72 dpi if you're placing an image into Word/Word Perfect. That's if you're not using SFW, which does just that.

Re: Inserting jpg files
Actually, SFW does not tag a file for ANY ppi.

Re: Inserting jpg files
One interesting point. The last time this happened, I resaved the image in
PS 7 as a TIF file, and that inserted fine into WP, even though it was much
larger.
Possibly the best approach is to save a second copy as a much smaller/lower
resolution file such as the SFW approach. I do this when I insert images
into e-mails to keep the size down.
I did get some reples on the WP 9 newsgroup that others have had similar
problems, and also have learned that TIF or smaller jpg files do seem to
work much better. No one know why though.
