First, thanks for your answers :)

I use yum as well (something like apt-get) but what I enjoy in linux is
the wide choice of apps which can be installed, compiled modified ....
So rpms are just not enough :)

    Now, to the point :)

If I install libs, they are supposed to be the libs required by other
softwares, what do I miss ?

oups, when I said Gentoo, I meant a file manager, not the distribution :)

But after all, since everything is working, I might consider trash
RedHat and install something else (I tried Slackware, Mandrake : why not
    swap to Gentoo :) )

Currently I am fighting with nautilus 2.4 ->

    It asks me eel
    I get eel
    eel asks me GConfig
    I get GcConfig

rpm -i GConfigerror: GConf2-2.2.0-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key
    ID db42a60e
    error: GConf2-2.2.0-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed

My, my I might even loose my temper :)
