Install ColdFusion on Vista
I've read all of the information I can about installing CF on Vista but it
seems like all of the topics were looking to install on a Beta version of
Vista. Has anyone gotten this to work? Do you simply install it and it works?
If it doesn't work when will Adobe fix this. Certainly they don't expect us to
drop ColdFusion because we cannot develop with it on our new computers.
Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

connecting it to IIS. Just use the build-in webserver or Apache.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
I've just tried installing CF 7.02 and CF 7.01 on Vista Business Edition and
cannot get it to install. I keep getting an error: javaw.exe has stopped
working and the installer quits. I've tried running the installer as
administrator. The same thing happens with 7.02 and 7.01 developer edition.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
Don't feel so bad a lot of people are getting this error with Vista myself included. I am looking for an answer but out of luck as of now after trying everything else posted here and elsewhere.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
I too am getting the JAVAW.EXE error when I try to install. BUT...
I have installed CFMX& on Vista before. But as is always the case with
Microsoft OS, I had to re-install Vista. This was a completely new install. Now
all of a sudden I cannot get MX7 to install (I get the error). I am running:
IIS7
Java v6.0 (v1.6 web runtime)
I've tried running the installer in Safe Mode and you get passed the JAVAW.EXE
error OK, but of course CFMX7 will not install because you cannot install CFMX7
without IIS running properly, and that won't run in Safe Mode.
One thing: I do have multiple web servers running under IIS7, and it could be
that CFMX7 doesn't like the look of all of those IIS websites running locally.
I'll continue trying to figure this out and post back if I find out what is
going on (would also be helpful if Adobe took justs a little of its attention
away from developing CFMX8 and helped out all the poor guys who are trying to
run CFMX7 on Vista).
Please, if you find out what is causing this, post back.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
As an update to my post above, here's other things I have tried withou success
(save you the effort):
- Stopped all (and all except the default) IIS web servers;
- Stopping Vista S/W Licensing service (just in case);
- Running the CFMX7 installer in XP/SP2 compatibility mode;
- Disabled Java Application Runtime Settings;
- UNINSTALLED JAVA ALTOGETHER!
None of the above worked.
The problem appears to be that the installer unzips temporary files, INCLUDING
a temporary Java runtime environment (javaw.exe). And it is THIS copy of
javaw.exe that executes the CFMX7 installation. And it is then that it falls
over. But I cannot extract the CFMX7 installer and do it manually.
What I simply cannot figure out is how I managed to install it on a previous
Vista installation.
Waiter, there's a soup in my fly.
:confused;

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
Have you looked here:
http://forums.iis.net/thread/1334484.aspx
Had no problems getting CF to work on Vista. Also don't know if makes
a difference to the CF7 installer, but CF8 installer tells you to set
the compatibility to NT not XP (although when I was getting CF7
installed, I'm sure I also used XP)

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
I am running the Vista Ultimate Edition. I don't get the java error spoken of
in the post but I do get a propmt from Install Anywhere that says I must choose
another location for the install. It doesn't matter where I try to install the
application it continues to ask me for another location to install.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
step 0: make sure latest JRE is installed
step 1: download/install winrar from www.rarsoft.com, be sure to specify
explorer shell integration during setup
step 2: right-drag coldfusion-702-win.exe to a location of your choice, and
choose "unzip to coldfusion-702-win"
step 3: delete all files from [unzip
location]\coldfusion-702-win\Windows\resource\jre\bin* (see note)
step 4: run [unzip location]\coldfusion-702-win\Windows\cf_install.exe
note: what I actually did in this step was copy the files from the
corresponding directory in my JRE installation, into the install's bin folder.
Then I "undid" the operation in Windows, which deletes the files copied but
doesn't restore those replaced. So instead of deleting all of them, I
essentially only deleted those that appear in a current JRE installation's bin
directory. If setup vomits over deleting all, use this shortcut to delete only
the pertinent ones.

Re: Install ColdFusion on Vista
On Vista Home Premium, if you right click on the Coldfusion installer and
select the check box next to run for Windows XP compatibility mode and check
run as administrator it should install with success.
