Default Installer crashes on Illustrator CS

When trying to start installation of Illustrator CS, after installer says "Authenticating Installer-Please Wait" a bit later, it quits and says "The application Install Adobe Illustrator CS has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected. Would you like to submit a bug report to Apple?"

I sent the bug report to Apple several times, but have heard nothing back.

Other things I've already tried with no success: 1. Ran Mac's disk first aid and ran permissions check. (Nothing needed fixing.) 2. Reset the P-Ram. 3. Established a new user with administrative permission and tried when booted up in that name. 4. Reset time on computer, restarted and tried. (At all times, no applications were open, no file sharing going on and virus protection is off.

This is a G4 400 MHz with 768 MB of RAM running OS 10.3.2. It has 3 gig hard drive space empty. All current updates have been run off of the Apple site (most recently JAVA and Safari). I've already installed Illustrator CS on two other computers with no problem (one almost identical to this one).

    HELP, please!!!

If Disk First Aid said that no permissions need fixing then I would really worry about this set up.

That' go to be a first.

But perhaps you simple have a bad CD.

I know that when you are installing the CS suite there is a problem with fonts. I had to remove fonts from the user/fonts folder during intallation. Then I put them back when I was done installing.

This may be the case with Illustrator as well.

I did think about the bad CD potential, and tried the installation with a CD that had worked on another computer. It didn't like this one, though.

Since we're just getting into using OS-X, no fonts, other than system fonts, are set up for use in OS-X, so there are none to remove.

I'm thinking about installing this package (number) on another computer and moving the complete installed program to the problem child, hoping it's just an installer issue. I'd rather not have to do it this way, but . . .

    Thanks for suggeestions.

    A follow-up for anyone who may be following this . . .

I copied the installed program and associated files that Illustrator puts in Library-Application Support from a computer where the Illustrator installation had worked on to a CD and copied them on to the problem computer. (I tried to copy the files directly to the Drop Box of problem computer, but this would not work.) The program started up OK, and I set the preferences. Tried 2-3 start-ups, all of which worked.

Of course, then I had to delete the program and associated files from the OK computer and re-install the program with a different serial number.

Though a pain in the ___, since I had a second computer to work off of, this worked out OK. Don't know what I would have done if I only had the one problem computer.

Ginny: I had the same problem until I read some technical notes on adobe online support. I have a G4 iMac with OS Panther 10.3.2, which has the "Font Book" included in the new operating system. The directions said to open the font book, select the "computer" icon on the left, then select all the fonts on the right side pane. After that, click "disable" in the lower right column. I saved the changes. Then I was able to install Illustrator CS without any problems. After the installation, I reopened the font book and enabled all the fonts.

    Hope this helps!

    Good Luck.
