Installing a scanner as a plug-in Acrobat reader 4.0

I have a computer that has a panasonic sv2055 scanner on it and it was working a few days ago then it fell off of our network and acrobat reader 4.0 does not see it when i go to file, import, scanner... I went and reinstalled all of the scanner drivers and still does not work is there a way I can manually install the scanner plug in into acrobat reader 4.0? Would upgrading to 6.0 change any of my current files or do anything?

Acrobat Reader cannot create PDFs so there would be no way to get it to connect to a scanner to import scans to PDF.
