Installing Access 2002 with Access 2000 - Microsoft Access

Unlike earlier versions, Access 2002 will use Access 2000 files as if they are native files. In fact, the Access 2000 file structure is the default setup in Access 2002. You may find that you don't need both on the computer. -- Wayne Morgan Microsoft Access MVP "Synergy" <Com> wrote in message news:phx.gbl... ...

    Wayne,

My concern is whether installing Access2002 will wreck my copy of
Access2000. When Access 2000 came out I installed in on my machine with
Access97 and it wreaked havok on it.It totally disabled Access97. I finally
recovered but with some functionality gone. This is a new client machine
and don't want to mess it up.

My lcient wants to stick with Access 2000 for the time being but wants me to
test Access2002 to see if there is a significant increase in speed, so I
want to install it, test it then uninstall it directly afterwards.

    God Bless,

    Mark

As long as you install it to a different directory, it should work. I've done the same
with 2000 and 97 successfully, but haven't tried it with 2000 and 2002. When you uninstall
the 2002 version, you may need to do a repair or reinstall on the 2000 version.

Here are some articles that may help.

There are some programs out there which will automatically start the
    appropriate version of Access.

One of those is ACCVER - Allows you to work with multiple versions of
MS Access databases. Detects the version of Access used to create your
MDB, MDE or MDA files and either reports the version number or starts
the appropriate version of MS Access. www.aylott.com.au/software.htm
