Installing CF Studio 7 Upgrade
Hi - my CF history is that I am one of the very first users, upgraded to 4.5,
5.5, and MX. In late September, I purchased the latest complete upgrade - I
call it the mystery package.
I lost my previous MX installation with the death of a computer in December
2004 and didn't bother reinstalling it. I am now trying to install the upgrade,
but it refuses to do so. I suspect that it is looking for that former MX
upgrade.
So, I tried to install the former MX upgrade, looking at all my bill of sale
information, and that says Serial Number for the MX Developer Edition is
Not-Applicable. Well! I cannot install this version, either!
What am I to do? I still have really old disks, but the last copy appears to
be version 5, not 5.5, which I believe was a download.
How do I proceed? (I gotta admit I'm feeling annoyed)

Re: Installing CF Studio 7 Upgrade
Hmm, you might be confused... your title is CF Studio 7, which there is no such
animal. CF Studio 5 was the last version and Homesite 5.5 is last "Studio"
product still sold. MX and MX7 are just the server product and not the IDE.
Are you trying to install ColdFusion MX7 SERVER, and what is your last version
to which you have a serial number for ColdFusion Server?
You never needed Serial Numbers for ColdFusion Server DEVELOPER editions, so
they are not valid for product upgrades. I "THINK" you might be able to use
ColdFusion 5 Server to upgrade to MX7, but you would need to contact Macromedia
Support or Sales to be sure.
You may be out of luck and be required to purchase the full version of
ColdFusion MX7 Server. However, if you are looking for the development software
CF Studio, then you are out of luck altogether since the product has been
discontinued. Try Homesite or Dreamweaver instead.
Hope this helps.

Re: Installing CF Studio 7 Upgrade
I'm never clear about what ColdFusion has to offer. IMHO, their marketing going
way back when has always been a mess and may be one of the reasons it didn't
win over ASP (now .net).
Anyway, sorry to be unclear myself-- The developer's version of MX7 is what I
am trying to install.
I have a second thread going on this with people making suggestions. The heart
of it is that I can't get MX7 installed. It will not unpack. All my other
downloads were just fine . . .

Re: Installing CF Studio 7 Upgrade
I understand completely. I had the same problems back in CF2.0 days.
I have had a lot of unpack problems with downloads from MM site. I will let
you work on the other thread, but keep trying to download it. Use different
computers if you can or be sure to delete all bad copies before you try. I
think MM has some issues with bad checksums; although they won't admit it.
Eventually, it will work because they fix the file or you just happen to get an
uncorrupted download.
Good Luck!
