Installing from source
If I must (no precompiled pkg) install something from source code -
Would it not be preferable to roll the configure/make results into a
..deb file?
So that I can install it with the normal apt-get or Synaptec software?
So that the system can keep track of it just like any other piece of
installed software?
Can anyone point to help/discussion/tutorial resources for doing this?
Or should I just configure->make->make install and fuhgedaboutit?

Steps become:
../configure
make
checkinstall
which creates the .deb and updates the database.
