Intalling upgraded Final Cut without OS9 - Mac Applications & Software

I have the ful version of Final Cut Pro 2, and the upgrade to FCP3. I am imagining that if I want to get the FCP 4 upgrade and install it on a new computer, I'm going to have to go right back to installing FCP 2 and upgrade twice from there (getting complicated). Trouble is, I remember FCP2 needing me to boot into OS9 to install properly. I'm wondering what can be done on a new mac that won't boot into OS9? Does it ever get to the point where you get so many upgrades that you can ask ...

Does it ever get to the point where you get so many upgrades that you
can ask the company for a full install of the latest version?

No worries, mate. I just deleted FCP 3 from an older Mac and installed
the FCP 4 upgrade on a new Mac that had not had FCP installed before. I
wasn't sure that it would install, but it simply asked for the serial
number of the previous version as well as the FCP 4 upgrade SN. Easy as
    pie.
