Default Intel MacPro - InDesign CS2 cannot export to PDF

I have just bought an Intel MacPro and am having a few problems in InDesign CS2, has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix?

I cannot seem to make PDFs which contain placed images (transparent TIFFs, or EPS files etc.) I get an error 'out of memory', I can't be out of memory on this meaty machine - the same file exports fine on my Mac Mini which has way less memory.

I am also unable to create a postscript file, get an error log. It's really impacting my business now, I have to keep sending all the files across to the Mac Mini to make PDFs!

If anyone can offer any advice I'd be most grateful. Ta.

Do not buy machines that the software is not supported on. Work from the Mac that works.

Tina, I will check how my system responds to that situation and see if I can reproduce your problem to find a solution, hopefully! :)

    Tina,

Is this true of any document you attempt to export?

If it is, then based on my MacBook Pro, I can tell you that it's not an Intel issue per se. I have no trouble exporting PDFs.

There are two potential differences between your machine and mine that might be the problem. One is that the MacPro is a 64-bit system, and it can also hold a lot more RAM than the other Intel Macs.

How much RAM is in your machine? If it's more than 2GB, you might try taking some out to get it down to 2 GB, and see if that helps.

    Hello Peter, Xavier,

I have 2GB RAM in this machine.

The problem seems to happen when I have made a file with placed images, i.e. a transparent TIFF or an EPS file. ID files with no images work fine. The other thing is that when I copy the very same file (including images) to my Mac Mini, it exports completely fine!

I have tried uninstalling InDesign and Acrobat but still the same thing, will try to uninstall again and see what happens.

    Thanks :-)

Oh I just tried another test - removed all the placed images in the probem file - made a low rez PDF - it worked fine. I then placed an unrelated small TIFF in the file, again it exported okay.

It seems that it does not like large placed images and gives the 'out of memory' error. Not sure if I should contact Apple or Adobe about this???

Okay, problem seems to be fixed! I did a manual uninstall of CS2, including files in all the various folders (see: <http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331301.html)>.

Once I reinstalled CS2 the export function worked fine - I have not installed any update patches, as I'm afraid that my have been the problem - may install them if I get brave in the future!

Thanks to everyone who helped with this.
