Hi,

A Windows client connecting through a Proxy Server to a Web Service is
experiencing intermittent WebException errors of the form:

"The underlying connection was closed. An unexpected error occurred on a
receive"

The client machine is using a Windows .NET application and the .NET
Framework 1.1. The Server is also using the .NET Framework 1.1.

[url]http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q819450[/url] discusses a
similar but slightly different error message, "An unexpected error occured
[sic] on send". But it implies that the problem only applies to the .NET
Framework 1.0.

There is no load balancing on my Web Server. I don't know much about the
network between my client's PC and his proxy server.

The link to Q819450 above suggests that it may help to set the KeepAlive
property of each WebRequest to False. Can anyone explain why this might help
and whether it is likely to reduce performance? Any other ideas for solving
the problem?
