Default Internal error on file open - mx04

    Hi-

I searched this forum and found messages, but did not see any remedies for this
    problem.
My specs: Windows XP pro, 2.53GH P4, 512RAM (only other app running is OE6 and
    McAfee VS7 home edition)

When using the OPEN command (from file menu or open icon or open on the start
page) I get the double AN INTERNAL ERROR OCCURRED, twice. Then each folder I
browse to I get the error once for each folder browsed to. This happens before I
get to choose any file I may be wanting to open.
If I select a previously opened file from the start page, the error does not
    occur.

    Any ideas, suggestions?
    thanks
    warren

I'm getting the same error on previous mx projects. I can't open any of them. I can however create a new file and close and reopen it.

I'm in a bit of a panic right now.

Someone on this newsgroup posted a similar report a couple of weeks ago,
    then reported the following workaround:
    > The culpret is TweakUI. TweakUI has a Common Dialogs setting that let you
    > adjust the Standard File Dialog's Places Bar so that you can display only
    > the information that you want rather than all of the useless default stuff

    Then

Please let me know if this is useful to you or not.

How about in TweakXP? I don't find any settings resembling Common Dialogs in there. Anyone can provide any assistance on that. Thanks in advance :)

It worked in Win XP Pro / TweakUI 2.00.1.0

By doing a little trial-and-error setting, I got the best of both worlds by
keeping my custom settings. I did not have to go with custom settings, nor did I
have to have the -back- button (which I find redundent). The only mandatory
setting for my system was to check the -remember previously used filenames-
    checkbox. This fixed the problem.
I couldn't live w/o my custom open dialog options.
I hope this helps others too.
    Thanks Jeff.

    ERRATA

I meant to say DEFAULT settings, not custom settings as below.

    Thanks,

I put the TweakUI in but that didn't change my problem. My open dialog works fine, it's when I try to open a project saved in Fireworks MX prior to MX 2004. That when I get this INTERNAL ERROR OCCURRED thing. I installed the prior MX version and I can open the files with the older program which saves me from having to do the projects all over again. I also have seen a tremendous amount of incompatability with other programs running at the same time with these MX 2004 apps. Real Buggy.

I just tried TweakUI on my XP machine. It didn't work for me either. I guess it would be better for me to downgrade back to Fireworks MX for the moment.

Aside from installing Tweak, did you also make the modifications as I stated in
my earlier post? (that is, check the *remember previously used filenames*
checkbox in the *common dialogs* section).

Yup. Both checkboxes were already checked by default and the radio button was also set at 'Show Default Places'. I have changed back to Fireworks MX and it works perfectly fine.

same problem here... first i had the problem with all the files "*.jpg, *.png, etc."
then i used tweak UI to change the common dialog things... and now i can open *.jpg files but NO *.png files! Fireworks is useless w/o the possiblity to open *.png files.... unbelievable to release such a buggy application!

The only thing I can suggest is to open the files in the original version of MX and save as a new file and see if you can open the new one in MX2004. If that doesn't work I have no idea :-(

Glad I haven't had that problem!

    Good Luck

Are you folks experiencing the same problem?

"wrrn" was having problems in the open dialog, seeing the internal error
message as he would navigate around within the dialog.

It sounds like the problem you're having is with opening particular files.
Please email me one example of such a file (jdoar at macromedia dot com) and
I'll see if I can find out anything.
