My brother and I each have T1600 e-machines with a
Conexant SoftK56 V92 FAX modem (on COM3), Windows XP
(fully updated),
and Internet Explorer 6. We have been connecting to the
net via MSN.

We both have the same problem -- after connecting to the
Internet (or just a connection via Outlook Express for
email)
we are beset with repeated breaking of the link and
reconnects (I have it set to automatically reconnect
fairly quickly
which it does without a problem). There does not seem to
be a pattern in terms of length of time between
disconnects or
of activity (non-use, active use, different sites, etc.).
Sometimes the disconnect/reconnect happens constantly,
over
and over -- other times it will happen once or twice and
then not for a while. The problem persists on five
different
MSN local phone numbers. I have another computer (Windows
95 & an older version of the brouser) which I use on the
same telephone line connecting via MSN without problem.
And, I have another service provider which I set up on my
T1600 machine and the problem persists there. So, it is
not my telephone line or the server connection. The
problem must be in the

(1) OS/connection software or

(2) the modem/computer "firmware."

The problem is so bad that neither of us can get anything
done on-line with these machines.

We NEED a solution!

I have searched the Windows XP Microsoft site and talked
with MSN support several times -- resulting in lots of
possibiliteies, none of which have helped. What I would
like to have is someone to really think about the problem
and
give me a line of attack that will determine what the
cause is. I have spent a great number of hours following
various
suggestions to no avail.

HELP!

Thank you,
