Actually IE ignores the Content-Type header (and all browsers ignore the
extension) but instead tries to guess the file type by the contents of the
file. To see it in action serve an HTML as image/jpeg, it will show up as an
HTML page, not as in invalid JPEG image.

Actually, IE doesn't ignore the ContentType header. Otherwise, all of the
ASP and ASP.Net apps that I've written that use an ASP or ASP.Net page to
display a dynamically-generated image never would have worked. And they all
    do.

Kevin please, verify what you're saying first. Try setting the Content-Type
in your image generating pages to text/html, IE will still show an image. It
    ignores the Content-Type.
