Internet Explorer won't let me intall shockwave

I'm running Vista and tried playing games on Miniclip.com. The video would run
and freeze very choppy. So I uninstalled my version of Shockwave and then
tried reinstalling. Internet Explorer immediately stops working and won't
allow download. My error message actually say " IE stopped working" and in a
matter of seconds "IE restarting and then my home page (yahoo) appears. No
download possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had similar errors on XP Home/IE7 as well. I had the common trouble
of Shockwave not installing (said I needed to be admin even though I
already was), so I uninstalled and cleaned the registry & temp files.
Now I get an IE crash as soon as I select that yellow download/install
button. My IE doesn't relaunch, but I guess that is a matter of how XP
and Vista differ in handling IE crashes.

Waiting patiently for advice on the IE crash cause as well as the
permissions error during installation...
