Intranet ODBC
i have several computers networked together. if i create cfm pages, is it
possible to connect these pages to the MS Access database? if yes, how do i go
about creating a connection without installing the coldfusion server? the cfm
pages and mdb files are locating on the same computer with IIS installed.
thanks.

Re: Intranet ODBC
you must have a coldfusion server installed on the computer that is hosting the
..cfm pages. The coldfusion server is responsible for parsing the .cfm pages and
doing whatever necessary when a coldfusion tag is reached. Without a coldfusion
server, none of the functionality in the .cfm page will work.
This is oversimplified, but gets the point across.

Re: Intranet ODBC
I'm guessing the real issue is that the Access .mdb's are scattered amongst
many machines but you only have one CF Server (you must have had at least one
to debug your .cfm's, right?). To connect to .mdb's (or any file for that
matter) on other machines you first need to ensure that the Account (Control
Panel/Admin Tools/Services/Right Click CF(s)/Properties/Logon)under which CF is
running on the Server has permissions to the other machines. The default
during installation is for CF to Run AS a local System Account which is pretty
much guaranteed not to work unless your network is totally unprotected.
Typically you would establish some type of NT Domain account (non-expiring
password), giving it permissions to everything on it's own machine and
permissions to each of the .mdb's (or a higher level folder) on the machines
from which you wish to publish and then change the CF service(s) to Run as that
account. Now you're set for the simple part. Create a datasource in CF
Administrator and point it to those .mdbs. Warning, DO NOT USE mapped drive
letters. They don't work in older version of CF. Use UNC names instead, i.e.
\\othercompname\databases\xxxxx.mdb
