    Try and Enable/Start RDS Services.

Default IO error on server communication

I'm in the cfadmin trying to add a database, and I get an Java Error saying 'IO
error on server communication'. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with IIS7
as the administrator account. ColdFusion MX 7.0.2. I have the latest version
    of Java Runtime Environment installed.

When you say you have installed the latest version of the JRE, exactly which
version are you referring to? ColdFusion MX 7.0.2 should not be running on a
version higher that 1.4.x (1.4.2_11 was the version to use for the recent US
    Daylight Savings Time change).

Is this just one database giving you a problem or are you totally unable to
    create a data source?

Also, are you able to add the datasource on an XP or other version of Windows?
ColdFusion 7.0.2 has not been certifed for Vista.

What type of database (i.e. MS SQLServer, Oracle, etc) are you trying to add a
datasource for? Here is the Support Matrix for ColdFusion MX 7.02:

I have JRE 1.4.2_13. I know I was only suppose to install 1.4.2_11, but
    1.4.2_13 was recommended to me.

All access databases are the problem. I haven't tried any other datasource
types. Should also mention I've got Access 2007 installed.

Datasource works fine in all other versions of Windows that I've installed.
I've seen this before on Windows 2003 Server though. Some kind of security
    setting?

Trying to add an access database.

The only time I've seen that particular error was when someone was trying
browse to a directory when installing a hot fix via the Admin update section.
The cause of that particular issue is that RDS is turned off.

If your RDS is turned off, try turning it on and seeing if that helps. Here's
a Tech Note that explains how to do that - be sure to use the ColdFusion MX
    instructions. http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_17276

Yeah, I saw that TechNote earlier in my search, but I checked and I do have RDS enabled.
