    Default ipf: Cannot find ELF

    Hi,
I just tried to get ipf working i on solaris 8 64bit.
I downloaded, compiled and build the package of version 3.4.32pre3.
After installing with pkgadd I got the following messages:

Installing IP Filter (64-bit) as <ipfx>

    ## Installing part 1 of 1.
    /usr/kernel/drv/sparcv9/ipf
    /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipf
    /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipfs
    /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipfstat
    /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipmon
    /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipnat
    [ verifying class <none> ]

    Installation of <ipfx> was successful.
    rootvrlab21:/usr/people/cintema> /usr/sbin/sparcv9/ipf
    ipf: Cannot findELF
    Killed
    rootvrlab21:/usr/people/cintema>

I also tried ipf, but got the same message.
    What's going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Ok its better to use a 64bit compiler when building 64bit kernel modules:-)
    All works well now,
    Chris

I warmly recommend you sign up on the IPFilter mailing list. There are some
sharp people there including Darren himself (the maker of IPFilter). You
could benefit from their combined knowledge of IPFilter and firewalls in
    general.

    with

    It's not a newsgroup. It's a mailing list.

    Send mail to
    anu.edu
with "subscribe ipfilter" in the body of the mail.

The IPFilter home page is at http://coombs.anu.edu.au/~avalon/

And the excellent HOWTO is at http://www.obfuscation.org/ipf/

Also, if you'd like a FireWall-1-like GUI, the ISBA, Tcl/PERLTk/SSH powered
frontend to IPFilter is at: http://inc2.com/isba/

Note: FWbuilder is also supposed to be able to handle IPFilter. But as far
as I know, it doesn't work on anything prior to Solaris8, and it has
portability issues. ISBA on the other hand runs like a charm, because it's
    written in Tcl/PERLTk.
