Default Iplanet LDAP server on Solaris 8. Performance issue

    Hi everybody
I have set an iplanet Ldap directory server with 170,000. I am very
worried about its performance. When I search for an entry with an
attribute that has no index it takes about 2 minutes. When I index it
it is in order of milliseconds. Is it normal that it takes so much
time to search when no index is available

    Regards

I have seen the exact same thing on our similar configuration. The
indexes help a great deal. Our ldap guy tuned some memory settings,
it helped but never as much as the indexes.
