You sure do a lot of assuming. How about just trying it? m.

You sure got a real wise ass way of expressing yourself. Must be the
callow youth compensation thing. Is this how Enough started out before
he turned into a professional asshole?

As I'm probably old enough to be your father, that's possibly true!
Nevertheless, my way of expressing myself was not intended to be "real
wise ass". I often see you say "I assume" without testing. I'm not
trying to criticise; I'm trying to teach you something that will help
you - two things actually, that are sides of the same coin: Don't assume,
and don't be afraid to experiment. My comment is to the point: a very
good way to find out what happens when the iPod is connnected to a
sleeping Pismo is to try it, and a very good way NOT to find out is to
hang back and assume. So try it! Then you can tell *us* what the answer
    is. m.

My iPod doesn't charge when my Pismo is sleeping. I had assumed that,
but I checked it to be sure. Neither device went poof.

And while Matt's answer may have been perceived as a little sharp, I
have never seen him less than helpful on mac newsgroups.

No. It will only charge while the computer is powered up.

There are some Macs which will charge an iPod when the Mac is sleeping.
(My iBook is one.) At least when the Mac is plugged into power (not off
battery). I don't know if this is a hardware thing or a system software
thing. If it doesn't work on a Pismo with a recent system software, it
    must be hardware.

It doesn't work on a Pismo with 10.2.6. I have this hardware
    combination, and tested it.
