Is a web server required to edit?
Hi,
I'm about to conduct some Contribute 3 training next week where some people
will have a network connect, some not. Therefore, I asked IT to load local
versions of the site on everyone's laptop.
I just read in a C3 training book that unlike Dreamweaver, "Contribute
requires that you edit pages on a server". I'm using C4 and the tutorial I just
went through resides locally on my Mac and PC and NOT in any server and they
work fine.
Will we be able to work on a local version of my client's site when I train
them on version 3?
Thanks for any answers you can provide.

Re: Is a web server required to edit?
Contribute's preferred way of connecting is via the client to server - but it
will be able to browse to a folder on the local drive, using a Local Network
connection type. Ideally you would want to host the site using IIS or Apache,
as Contribute needs to configure settings according to standard web server
configurations, i.e sites having an index or default page.
One thing to note - the work flow will be similar to this c:\<publishing
folder name> --- the client software creates a local cache of your publishing
site found in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Macromedia\Contribute 3\Sites\ <site folder number>
The idea is that the publishing folder and the local folder synchronize
similar to Contribute connecting to a remote server location.
