IS it better to use session variables or pass a URL variable - Macromedia Dreamweaver

Yes, I am sure the answer starts with - It depends... Well, I am trying to get a person's name from one page to the next. The name will obviously have to have spaces and apparently the URL variable puts the %20 stuff in place of the spaces and based on my experience the receiving code - <form name="form1" method="post" action=""> <input name="textfield" type="text" value="<%=Request.QueryString(rater)%>"> </form> Is incapable of extracting the information from that variable that has been passed. Default IS it better to use session variables or pass a URL variable

Yes, I am sure the answer starts with - It depends... Well, I am trying to
get a person's name from one page to the next. The name will obviously have
to have spaces and apparently the URL variable puts the %20 stuff in place
of the spaces and based on my experience the receiving code -

<form name="form1" method="post" action="">
<input name="textfield" type="text"
value="<%=Request.QueryString(rater)%>">
</form>

Is incapable of extracting the information from that variable that has been
passed. Everytime it runs it has an error that says it is expecting a
string. The IE6 URL line shows the correct variable has been passed in the
URL, so it seems that the receiving page is what is causing the problem.
There could be another problem since I am new to this data passing aspect of
web programming and IT could be this - I have noticed that the URL address
line does not show what the variable is. By this I mean the following:

http://www.engconcepts.net/web_survey_test.asp?Wright%2C+James+R=1&Submit=Su
bmit

In the above line - the name info is correct but I do not see anything
telling me that this data is associated with the Rater field which is what
it is supposed to be. Maybe I am doing something else wrong and have no way
of knowing it.

Any help understanding this will be appreciated.

Thanks
George

Well, It depends.. :)
Actually from what my understanding is, what you are trying to do is because you are using FORM method="GET" and that is a little different from "URL Parameter". If all you simple want to do is pass the values of your form from one page to another, you need not worry about session variables or url parameters. When u use the POST or GET method, your form variables are already available on the next page, as long as you use the appropriate script to grab them.
Here is an example, I am using PHP_MySQL server model on Apache. http://i2l2.com/tutorials/form1.html

Thanks, I will work through them. I have lots of other questions as well.
More to come later, though. Thanks again

have no clue about *.asp, *.jsp, *.vbscript and so on... I only know
PHP_MySQL. Regarding code and so on... you will have to reference with your
perticular language. Anyway here is the link to the source files.
