Is it possible to query a prior query? - Microsoft SQL / MS SQL Server

Is there some way to save a selection set in SQL so that another SQL query can further refine the prior query?...

    Use a derived table:

    SELECT *
    FROM
    (SELECT type
    FROM titles
GROUP BY type) AS X -- X is a "derived" table
    WHERE type<>'UNDECIDED'

If you are just doing a projection or selection on the result then there is
often no need for this. (In the above example I could have used HAVING
    instead of the derived table).

In some cirstances you may want to INSERT the data into a temporary table
but try the derived method first.
