Is transparency in a gradient possible?
I'm trying to create a gradient that goes from transparent to black, to use as a "fade" in a text box over the base of an image so that the text area (which is solid black) doesn't just have a sharp boundary with the image.
Can't for the life of me figure out how to do it though :-(
Anyone got a solution?

Re: Is transparency in a gradient possible?
You can try changing the blend modes, but no, ID doesn't do transparent
gradients.
I typically create that type of gradient in Photoshop and place the PSD
file.

Re: Is transparency in a gradient possible?
Put a solid box under the text box, and apply a hefty degree of feathering
to it. The solid will then be progressively transparent over the image, and
the text will sit on top of the fading solid. Fiddle with the feathering
until it looks right. You could combine feathering with a graduatred tint to
enhance the effect.

Re: Is transparency in a gradient possible?
Try this...
In your gradient one color is white the other is any color other than black. Select the object in question and use the Multiply feature in the transparency box.

Re: Is transparency in a gradient possible?
You can also create what you want in Illustrator using an opacity mask and then place that in ID.
