IT Request: Log Changes to ASP code
I do contract development on a large public site for a city government agency.
The IT department , in response to the site hanging randomly, wants me to
start documenting my process/code changes. Yuck! (The site comes back up when
the server is re-booted) I have never heard of ASP code doing something like
this. One consultant suggested that it was the Access database --- that it
needs to be de-fragmented.
Does anyone have similiar experience? What is the deal w/documentation? Am
I completely naive? What about the site hanging?

assurance and documentation supervision that is usually done by large
organizations who would need to audit their work (not just work).
There are many tools to provide either a textual documentation or a real
time doucmentation. The options is to use a CVS or SVN tree which keeps a
version of all your files and you can perform rollback in time. This
versioning system allows you to see which code was created, eliminated, by
whom and which result did it provoqued.

CVS http://www.gnu.org/software/cvs/
Other type of documentation is doing a project blog (journal) where you
can save comment and document the procedual milestones of your project.
Finally another uselful side is commenting the code since it also saves
time on locating what do what. You can also learn the netiquette of code
comenting by knowing what NOT to do here:

Alexandro,
Thanks very much for your info... I appreciate it! Ahhh... the things I would have learned had I gone to school for this instead of being self-taught!
