Item/Page Search
As you are viewing this page, you'll notice that at the top there is a Search
box that will return a list of matches or close matches based on what ever text
string you enter.
Can anyone point me to a page that details how to add one of these to a
website? The goals I want to accomplish are:
[num]
1. An obvious page search so that people browsing can find a page on my site
matching what they're looking for.
2. A shopping search that would return a list of matching or closely matching
items. A good example site would be http://www.ebgames.com

Use Google search. It's free and it works.

Re: Item/Page Search
Congratulations Hager you found Google. Weeeeeeeeeeeee. Of course I tried that,
but I wanted to see MANY suggestions. There's more than one way to do things
out there and while Google has some damn good ones, I would love to hear the
many recommended ways to do that. But kudos Hager. All you need to do is
post your suggestion, not a condecending remark.
To elaborate on the second question, several solutions to the shopping cart
issue exist, several I've found that cost quite a heafty sum with a software
package to install for the shopping cart functionality. For those that have
used shopping cart software in the past, what would you recommend that is very
robust yet easy on the Credit Card. I don't want to make my Visa sad.

Re: Item/Page Search
Sorry 'Speeder", there was no condescending remark intended. I really did
not mean to offend. I use Google search on a fairly large (20,000 items)
store and it quickly finds individual items, groups of items, articles on
the site, whatever you're looking for.
You are certainly welcome to search for "Many" solutions.
Your original post says "Can anyone point me to a page that details how to
add ONE of these to a website?" So I pointed you to ONE. My intent was to
suggest you use Google search. It is free and it works very well. It's easy
to apply and you can spend your time working on other aspects of your site.
As for shopping carts... and please take no offense at this... they are
pretty much "You get what you pay for" The more features, security and
connectivity to payment systems you want, the more you will pay. And I know
you are aware that there is more an more concern about security on the web.
Most banks and credit card companies will require 100% PCI DSS compliance
and you'll need to find a package that addresses those issues. Not usually
cheap.
And please try not to get Pissy when somebody is trying to help.
