Default I've got an invisible Status Bar??

Something really strange is going on here. My status bar is a greyed out
section where a status bar should be. I'm using FHMX (patch updated) on Windows
XP Pro with P4 chip and 1GB ram. I've tried turning it on by ticking "status
bar" in the "Toolbar" menu and have even gone so far as to uninstall and
reinstall FH. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? Is there maybe a preference
    setting I've overlooked?
Thanks for reading this plea for help.....

Default Re: I've got an invisible Status Bar??

When you do not have a document opened in FreeHand, the status bar will be
grayed-out or disabled. If you have one document opened and still the status
bar is disabled, click and drag it to make it float and then check if the
following are visible: magnification, drawing mode, and units.

If this will still not work, follow the steps on the link below (FreeHand
Technote) on how to recover missing toolbars:

    Hope this helps

Tried all your advice Joy, but that cheeky status bar still didn't show up
(believe me, I looked high and low). What I ended up doing was uninstalling &
then reinstalling FH. This time I chose the option to remove all other user
preferences during uninstall. Everything is a-ok now.
    Thanks....
