Hi,
Been having some problems with my Illustrator CS and trying to input japanese. I have gone as far as getting the US flag up and have changed the input type into japanese but the thing quite after I input one character and I have to pull down the menu again. Some help please?

I would trash the AI preferences. Create a new document the second and third lines under the pen icon next to the Japanese symbol will bring up input dialogs just click and this should work. You can also use the Apple's character palette to input you have to a Japanese font selected first in the Illustrator's Character Palette.
I have no problems with this.
