Default java drop down menus

I use GoLive as well as Dreamweaver. GoLive has a great extension, MenuMagic
that build Java-based drop down menus. It's all done visually in one palette.
So, I go to build a site in Dreamweaver that needs these type of menus. (the
GoLive version of the site in question is at www.xcelicor.com). I need an
equivalent extension for DW. I searched and found Pop Menu Magic from PVII. Buy
it. Hate it. It's so much more complicated than MagicMenu - to change the
colors of the menus, I have to find some code in the CSS menu...it will take me
a year to fully build what I need. So, I'm asking you all if anyone knows of a
java-based menu builder for DW - one that's visually based.

Hi synterx.

I, too, am very familiar with GoLive and your problem. I have moved to
Dreamweaver and find it to be far superior to GoLive, although there is that
problem of finding extensions that accomplish things the way I did them in
GoLive. Yes, I found a great product that comes very highly recommended in the
Macromedia Exchange. It is called Horizontal Flyout Menu by PluginLab.

I need to warn you though that I purchased this extension last week for the
$59.00 fee and still haven't received the paid registration activation code.
All of my e-mails go unanswered and I cannot use the product to write any code
until I get the code. I'm not really sure what is going on there. I have a
post regarding this not that far under yours.

There are other extensions available at the Developer's Exchange on this site.
If you want to visit PluginLab, go to the following site:
http://www.pluginlab.com
They also have a vertical fly-out menu available. (Again, will they e-mail
the registration code? I'm not sure...)

Ah, I read your post about the other program...not good. I think these
download-only companies need to do it in real-time - you pay, you play! The
limitation I'm finding is many of these extensions allow one menu per page. I
need two. A guy from PVII just called me on the phone, on his dime, when I
requested a refund for PMMagic. That was nice. We concluded that I can not do
what I need to do. A refund is coming. So now I'm at square one. MenuMachine (I
called it MenuMagic, sorry) is a very simple, yet powerful extension. The
gentleman from PVII did comment on how basic it is, and not-accessible due to
the fact it's java based, and not text, but that doesn't concern me for the
site I'm using it on. MenuMachine (www.bigbangextensions.com) is a GoLive only
thing, and they say until Adobe kills GL in favor of DW, they will not
entertain a DW version...mistake if you ask me. Anyway, I don't want to spend
the next two weeks learning how to do these menus manually. The project is not
a big-buck level project. So, I might be forced to build the site in
Dreamweaver, and do JUST the menus in GoLive and hope it all works.

I did look through Exchange for other alternatives, and can't seem to find any
like I need...I was hoping someone here already went through this and has a
short list...

I went and looked at pluginlab, that seems closer to what I need, but no Mac version, and no mention of using more than one on a page. So, I think that's out.

Ahhh, you need two to a page. I know the trouble. I had to find a slide show
extention that I could use multiple times on a page like I did in GoLIve and
was finally able to find one that just happened to work.

Okay, this is another try. This extention lets you download a full, working
trial version. Perhaps it may be worth a try to see if you can put two to a
page. If it does, you could purchase the version for I think it was $39.00
that takes out the "credit link" back to their site.

Hi :-)

Was nice talking to you today. Unfortunately, most popup menu tools are
either high-end (standards conformant and accessible) like ours or
appeal to designers who have not yet learned (or don't have the time to
learn) standards-based coding and CSS practices. There is not much of a
middle ground - unless, of course, you want to build them yourself using
our free extensions. You have gotten me to think about multiple menus on
a single page, though ;-) - it would sacrifice some efficiencies but
perhaps provide a solution to a measurable market.

Best of luck in your quest and don't hesitate to contact us if you need
advice.

Hey Al! Two, or more menus on a page would be a very nice feature. Sometimes, I
just don't like using one identical navigation system for the whole site - I
like to split things up based on importance...one other suggestion, make it
easier to change colors on the backgrounds, text, etc. Having to go into the
CSS pallette, and look for arcane codes works, but it sure would be nice to
have that hidden to some degree...don't know if it's doable or not.

I too bought MenuMachine for GoLive before I moved over to DW cos' GL was
falling over so much I couldn't make any progress(I'm learning and building
my own site at the same time). I was concerned that it wasn't accessible so
went the difficult route and learnt how to grow my own. (this was before PMM
was released)

Can you not construct a working page with all the links in place in GL then
copy and paste the code and java files into your DW page/site? might be a
bit of a nightmare to update though.

That's what I ended up doing. I copy/pasted the 2 chunks of code into DW master
template. It works fine, but as you said, editing is a 2-step process. Open
page in Golive, edit, copy/paste the 2 chunks of code again. Not too bad really.

What if you used GL to create the menu as an SSI with the js in a separate
script file and reference these from DW? This would keep the possibility of
errors in Copy/paste out of the equation.

I'm new to menumachine. Exactly what, where are the two "chunks of code?"
