Any suggestions?
Thanks!

and logfile analy(sis|zer). Most hosting plans provide them. They're
the closest to accurate site statistics you'll get.
Visitor counters, particularly third-party solutions, look amateur and
can slow page loading.

Re: Jeez - customer wants a vistor counter...
Found what the server host offers - they want the index page saved as .shtml to
do it. It's a .php page that I don't want to save in a different format.
Any recommendations on a PHP version.
I swear - for what I'm making on this project - this is a white elephant.
Thanks though for any help.

It's probably a simple plug in from your hosting company.

Hi yea,
put your name down for a google analytics account, its free, and its far
better then any counter.
http://www.google.com/analytics/
I first opened an account 3 months ago, but after 2 days goole closed it due
to over demand, i was told I would be send an invite to open an account ,
and they send me an invite 10 odd days ago. it is brilliant.
the amount of feed back you can get for free is very good.
regards
Kenny

Re: Jeez - customer wants a vistor counter...
Thanks - but too many hoops to jump just for a web counter. The free extensions shouldn't have to need all the personal information felixOne asks for.

Hey Kenny -
How do you see yourself using that? It's intriguing but I guess I just don't understand how it is implented. My site I am working on does not sell anything.
? (Thanks!)

Re: Jeez - customer wants a vistor counter...
wowa,
your site doesnt have to sell mate,
see
</div><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js"
type="text/javascript">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
_uacct = "UA-221403-2";
urchinTracker();
</script>
</body>
that code is placed above your /body tag. of all the pages you want a report
on.
th code above is spcific for me and provided by google. so on havin that on
me sites I can get the google free analytics and it gives me a total insite
as to where my visitor came from and much much more.

Re: Jeez - customer wants a vistor counter...
Well, you said "just for a visit counter" but it seems you are searching a
treasure, a visit counter is one of the most aged application and just you
type "visit counter" in Google you get tons of them in any languages.
I gave you 2 addresses, in one of these you could download some script
without register, also Kenny gave you a good indication.
What you are searching for?

Re: Jeez - customer wants a vistor counter...
I swear Destafano - the last time I clicked on both Felix links - they BOTH
sent me to the same place - that register page.
My apologies.
But YES - I do feel like I have been searching for a HOLY GRAIL... when all I
want is a freaking visitor counter.
I will choose between this and another and will bother this post no more...
: ^ )
By the way Kenny - thanks for the info, I have a client who is very interested
in this sort of thing.
