jGNE-like-thingy on OSX? - Mac Programming

Forgive me if this has already been asked and answered (searching on Google groups didn't turn much up): Is there something like a jGNE filter on OS X? I need a way to record mouse clicks and recognize certain patterns of keystrokes---even if my App isn't frontmost. So RegisterHotKeyEvent won't work (unless there's a way to make it work *without* needing certain modifier keys---in fact somebody I met at MacHack said this was possible). Searching the Apple archives hasn't really turned anything up either... Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks, Mike...

    I don't know off-hand but I would suggest <http://extendamac.sourceforge.net/> as a good starting point.

As for keystrokes, you could alway poll GetKeys. I know, icky. Rumor
has it that there will be a new way to handle this problem in Panther.
