joining paths
I'm a freshman to Freehand and I can't figure out how to join open paths to a
path once it has been closed. If it is possible can you fill it with a
different colour afterwards. Somene PLS HELP. Thanks

I'm afraid your description of what you're trying to do is a bit confusing.
Could you explain in a little more detail exactly what you're doing/trying
to do?

As Bill mentioned, it's hard to tell exactly what you're looking for.
If you're just trying to join the ends of two line segments then select them
both and either use [command + J] or from the pulldown menus select
Modify / Join.
If you have a shape you've drawn but can't fill because it's not closed, then
in the Object panel there will be a check box labeled Closed.
Click on that and it will connect the two remaining ends of any shape.

Do you mean you want to extend/modify a closed path with a new, open
path? If so there are a couple of ways to do that (knife tool, splitting
path, union of shapes) but some more description of your problem could
help figure out the proper answer.
And, yes, you can change color attributes at any time.
