Default Jpeg - how to have the background transparent

    Hi All,

I have a jpg image into which I'd like to insert into a coloured backround.

I used the polygon tool to extract the pertinent part of the image and
inserted this into a transparent file - still no joy

It always appears like it has a background colour of white - any ways round
    this problem.

I understand how to do this with gifs - but am struggling with jpegs.

    Cheers
    Sinclair

I had my suspicions about this - thanks for confirming.

I wonder if there is a workaround to the image here............

It's the laptop image in the left sidebar - I put a border round the image
which made it look slightly better - but still not what I'm after.

If I create an image with the same texture as the side bar and pull in my

    Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks for this post - I've been getting a thin line around all my
transparent gifs, now I know what matte is for & how to use it! What exactly
    does the 100% dither do?

    Thanks again

Thanks Linda once again - that's so much better.............

I'd also be interested in Diann's query regarding the dither - I'm also
    unsure what this does exactly.

    Cheers

It helps blend the pixels of a gradient so it doesn't look as choppy in
GIF format. It works best on small images like yours. For large images
with gradients, or for photos, it's best to use JPEG format.
